At Live-in Fitness, your initial consultation includes baseline documentation of body statistics. This is how it all begins.
Baseline Scale Weight -At any self-respecting Adult Weight Loss Camp establishing a starting place for your weight loss and body transformation to begin is number one. That’s right! Until you know where you have been, you really can’t appreciate how far you’ve come.
Here at our Live-In Fitness Bootcamp this is the first step toward progress. Too often, we avoid the scales and that leaves room for the mind to play tricks on us. You know how often we downplay any progress that comes short of the ultimate goal? If it hasn’t been the entire 30 pounds lost, then the critical mind plays a game of denial with you. Your negative thoughts could then downplay your progress. That’s when the stinkin’ thinkin’ gets a hold and can sabotage your entire game plan if you let it. Therefore, ALL progress is accountable. Even holding at a standstill could tell us that there are certain factors affecting progress and they must be considered. Its all good to know when you are on a mission to lose weight fast and transform your body.
This is a weight loss camp for adults. This is life and not a dress rehearsal. These are tried and true methods of goal attainment. Personally, I did not make them up. No matter what the goal is, the beginning must be measured against the end result in order to evaluate whether or not you have achieved what you set out to do. Changing and tweaking what it is that you are doing along the way can only be done effectively when you monitor your progress.
Body Girth Measurements - Taking your measurements is not only something for your tailor to do when you need all your good clothes taken in…it is another baseline method for measuring progress.
Think about it. How many guys boast that they can still wear the same pants size since high school? Yeah, but it sure looks funny when you can’t see their belt for the big stomach that overlaps! Classic case of denial. The tape measure will clear up any misconceptions.
Another situation is due to the loss of muscle in the backside, then the pants slip down even lower. Sad, but true. One thing Corky and I always knew was the “go-to” gift for our dads was a new pair of suspenders! They needed to wear suspenders just to keep their pants up. Corky’s dad went through our program and was able to increase his muscle mass. By the time I got my dad to finally allow me to help, he was in stroke rehab. I included a pair of his favorite suspenders in his memorabilia. He won’t need them anymore.
Body Fat/BMI -All too often, weight loss is praised without this important consideration: Just WHAT did you lose? Did you lose excess body fat or did you crash diet to lose precious muscle? Loss of muscle will cause you to gain weight more readily due to the decrease in metabolism. Muscle is metabolism. Ladies, please stop the madness. Think about muscle as your friend! Weight loss management can only be successful when you lose weight correctly. That means, feeding the body the proper Weight Loss Nutrition it requires to maintain proper metabolism.
Everyday activity often isn’t enough to promote and maintain muscle. Dieting away the pounds just for the sake of reducing scale weight means that precious muscle will be sacrificed. The body then loses its structural foundation. Then the metabolism slows even more with the loss of muscle. Muscle raises your immune system. Muscle increases your metabolism. Muscle gives you the shape that is commonly referred to as, “muscle tone”. Avoid the misconception that women don’t need muscle or that men should only spot train areas of the body. The entire body must be treated as a whole.Calorie deprivation and crash dieting will cause the “yo-yo” syndrome of weight loss. As soon as you stop the “diet” the pounds you sacrificed to get off will come right back with MORE than you began with. Once you understand this, you will realize the importance of maintaining body fat measurements.
Spot Reduction- While we can focus on firming muscle in specific areas, studies have shown that we cannot spot reduce body fat. Oh sure, you can temporarily sweat off water with sauna suits, but that isn’t fat loss. In Las Vegas we used this method for swimsuit modeling. If you know you are scheduled for a 2PM photo shoot, then go to the dance studio that morning with plastic wrap under your tights or wear a pair of impervious sweat pants. (Guys would wear those blue rubber things around their waists.) This way, the subcutaneous water is temporarily reduced. After the shoot, your body is in serious need of rehydration. If the dehydration continues, then all sorts of problems occur. For one, I would temporarily lose mental clarity. Not a good situation when the first show starts at 6PM with 7 dance numbers per show to recall at high tempo in front of a showroom audience of over a thousand people!
Not a safe method for long-term results, but until after the photo event it served the purpose. The same has been done historically in wrestling where weight classes are an important factor in winning competitions.
A man will typically lose girth around the waistline and a woman can lose it from a number of different areas of genetic predisposition. For most women, this will be the breasts,stomach, hips and thighs.
"Before" Photos – The Body-for-LIFE method of muscle building for fat loss convinced the masses that dramatic fat loss results can be achieved in a relatively short time when you do ALL the right things together. This is how the 12-week body transformation became popular. Now we have similar approaches with the 8-week body makeover and others that have taken off from the Body-for-LIFE revolution. The one thing that all these methods have in common is that they document a baseline to begin with and then compare it against the finished result. This is best done photographically.
Again, the mind can play tricks on you if you don’t take your “before” photos. A man could maintain the same size in his arms, yet the circumference is of a different quality. Pictures don’t lie. A photo can show that toned muscle has replaced soft flab—even though the tape measure denies any change! Keep this in mind when documenting all baseline measurements, the scale, the tape measure, and the photos.
